Why is fascism weird?
Fascism is monstrous. It strips rights, targets communities, spreads cruelty. But it's also absurd. Fragile. Pompous. Built on lies so obvious they require constant performance to survive. Calling it weird isn't dismissive. It's accurate. And accuracy undermines its power.
It asks you to believe fiction over reality
Fascism depends on you choosing the story over your own experience. Propaganda repeats until the unreal feels safer than the truth. It builds a hyperreal world where symbols matter more than facts, where slogans replace what you can see with your own eyes.
It pretends to be strong. It's fragile.
Fascism claims moral clarity and strength but collapses under questions. Under jokes. Under even small cracks in its image of control. It can't withstand inquiry or satire because there's nothing underneath.
It invents the fire to play savior
Strongmen manufacture crises. The chaos makes them look necessary. It's a dumb loop: destroy, then pose as the only solution. They create the problem specifically to sell themselves as the answer.
It turns politics into ritual
Leaders stoke fear. Followers chant slogans. Real problems like healthcare, poverty, and inequality get replaced with scapegoating ceremonies. Complex issues disappear into hollow blame and empty promises.
It calls cruelty virtue
Instead of reducing suffering, fascism glorifies it. Violence becomes strength. Exclusion becomes moral duty. A healthy society measures decisions by whether they reduce harm. Fascism does the opposite on purpose.
It sells itself like a brand
Hats. Shirts. Slogans. Even branded religious texts. Fascism markets itself like a lifestyle, turns propaganda into merch, loyalty into something you wear. It borrows directly from advertising to turn ideology into identity.
Why dismissal works
Fascism needs spectacle and fear. It thrives on being taken seriously, even by its opponents. Calling it weird strips away that aura of inevitability. Dismissal denies fascism the legitimacy it craves while still naming the real harm it causes.
